Shortage of self portraits
Since becoming a photographer I now only have like 3 pictures of myself total. Our honeymoon looks like KC went to St. Thomas by himself... so in lake powell my brother made a point to take a picture of us together. He couldnt have picked a better time than right after I woke up. I made a point to look really shocked...

Lake Powell

Ok, I am following in the footsteps of my mother again (and brother) and starting a blog. I have always had one for photography, but I think its the only way to get KC to keep a journal of some sort, so here we go!!
Our family (The Jewkes) just got back from Lake Powell. To sum up the trip perfectly I will attach an email KC wrote to my sister who is serving a mission in Arizona and missed out on the family adventure.... ( you decide if that was a good, or a bad thing...)
Mollie-Moll-
The bad news is, you missed out on Lake Powell; the good news is the lake will still be there when you get back and we can all go again! We all had a blast, but I think that you're going to have to use the BIGGEST puppy dog eyes you've ever done to get your dad to agree to another trip on the house boat. We may have a better chance convincing Dave Wilkey to BUY the Lake and develop it and then we could probably get your dad to come back down.
Lake Powell was a blast! Despite what you may hear from anyone else, it was an awesome week! It was hot, and crowded, and there were screaming kids everywhere, but it was Lake Powell with 25 people; what did you expect!?! Everything fun that you can do at Lake Powell we did; and then we did it again. The thing that was great about boating with your family is that everyones either old, tired, pregnant, sunburnt or scared and so I got all the turns on everything! I'm used to going down to lake Powell and fighting over pulls behind the boat, but this year I could tow until my arms fell off. The girls actually needed a daredevil down there like you to save them the disgrace of whimping out on everything. Hannah claims she used to be fearless, but she wouldn't even jump off a 5 foot cliff. I gave her a hard time on the way home becasue she was excited to be the ONLY girl at Powell that would be "without child" and could do anything she wanted... which pretty much included rubbing sun block on her husbands back and lotion on his feet :) No, she did pretty good wake boarding. You may have heard a "SMACK" about 3 days ago and wondered what it was; well, it was the sound of Charlie going face first over the wake and belly flopping so loud that the entire Lake echoed. It was one of those crashes that hurt people watching it.
The neices and nephews were adorable. None of them can finish an entire Capri Sun, so I spent four days straight pounding the last of their half empty Capri Sun pouches they left lying around the houseboat... I peed a lot :) Zander makes everyone look like their good with kids cuz he's so easy to make smile. Paul thinks he may be retarded he's so good. Tyler is the cutest kid imaginable but only when he's not crying or hitting Peyton (which was probably about 80% of the trip). Jack is my favorite. He was playing super heroes and when Hillary asked him what super hero he wanted to be, he said "Uncle KC." How could he not be my favorite after such a thing!?! I'm not sure what my super hero powers are yet. The only super hero strength I know of is the ability to smell peoples bad breath from acrosss the room. Peyton is a chipmunk and got beat up the whole week (pinched fingers, etc.) Not to say that wedgies are cute, but Peyton sure makes them look that way. Brode still hasn't found a way to eat a Peanut butter and Jelly sandwhich without getting PB and Jelly smeared all the way up to his ears. He can hang at "Twister" with the best of them. He knows his Rights and Lefts like a champ, but doesn't know that if you pick both hands up at the same time you'll fall right on your face. Carter is a stud and is probably the most independent of the bunch. We got him to jump off the back of the boat and into the water. Jada is a miniture Hailey that thrives off any attention she can get. I think the one thing that we may have learned from this trip is that 5 days is too long of a trip for the kids. Pretty much from day 3 on you needed ear plugs to drown out all the crying. Day 3 to 5 was full of lots of tired, tired babies.
Anyways, we had a blast. Your family is awesome! We pray for you every night. Keep working hard, it's sad that you only have a year and a half to do the greatest work in the world! We all miss you and can't wait to go back to powell when you're back and can legally put on a swimsuit again. Here's a challenge for ya: YOU try to convince your dad to plan another trip to lake Powell, and I"LL try to convince your Dad to buy a Springer Spaniel to sleep at the foot of his bed :) (I'm sure you'll hear about this great Powell story... it was a classic. while both of us will have a tough time accomplishing either of them, I think you've got the edge by a long shot)
sorry I don't write more... Hannah and I will do better :)
Happy Birthday!
